Oil Removal From Brickwork

One of the hardest things to remove from brickwork is oil.

This customer in Norfolk had suffered a terrible experience with a random act of vandalism that had left a deep oil staining across the front facades of their property.

The incident was covered by the local BBC and ITV news.

Stage 1
Deep Specialist Clean

The first step was to remove the spilt oil using spiciest oil vacuum collection and then deep clean the brickwork, clay pavers, and terracotta tiles to remove as much of the oil as possible.

This removed a great deal of the surplus oil but still left oil staining to the porus brick, clay, and mortar surfaces.

Stage 2
Brick Tinting Sample Test (failed)

Oil stains are amongst the worst issues to deal with as there are many different types of oil and many different types and additives (etc) that can be included in bricks, hence the way the oil stains a porous brick can widely vary.

Once the brickwork had been cleaned, the first step in this case was to try to colour tint the brickwork to dye and stain the clay brickwork that had been stained by the oil. We complete a sample test panel to see if tinting would resolve the issue.

Brick Tinting is a recognised brickwork remedial solution.

Stage 3
Re-Cladding the Facade

The Brick Tinting test failed as the oil came back through within 48hrs.

Our knowledgable in house brickwork surveyors specified a suitable brick cladding system that would enable us to recreate the brickwork facade using 20mm thick brick slips on a spiciest carrier system.

Our skilled technicians were able to use brick repair technicians to deal with the window and door openings and the brickwork corners so as to create the illusion of seamless natural brickwork.

Stage 4
Brick/Mortar Tinting and Seal

One the new brick slip facade had been installed and mortared we then colour tinted both eh brick and mortar to match and blend seamlessly with the original, surrounding brickwork facade.

The finishing touch, we sealed all the windows and door openings and also sealed the brickwork with a breathable brick sealer.
